Jupiter Solution Architecture

Jupiter was developed as a J2EE multi-tier software architecture in which the business tier (developed using Enterprise Java Beans (EJB's) encapsulates all the logic necessary for system operation.

Using both servlets and JSP's, the web tier (Client Interface) is responsible for generating the user interface for the different software components as well as responding to user input.

The system is based on a triangular architecture of Client Interface, Principal Server and Site Server. There is one Principal Server per organization which carries all the system information and controls authentication, auditing, indexing, document retrieval and reporting. There can be one or more site servers-depending on scaling requirements-which store and retrieve indexed digital objects (scanned images, electronic files, audio, video, etc.).
