OBIAN SUPPORTS ORACLE APPLICATION
SERVER 10G AND GRID COMPUTING
Jupiter Specifically Designed To Take Full Advantage of Oracle Grid Computing Burlington,
MA – September 9, 2003. Obian announces today that Jupiter, its integrated document,
business process and content management application, will offer full compatibility with
Oracle’s Application Server 10g and Database
10g. Jupiter is the only 100% J2EE-compliant Enterprise Information Management system
leveraging all components of Oracle’s Web Services operating environment.
“Jupiter currently scales from laptop to data center. With its existing multi-tier
architecture, Jupiter is capable of supporting thousands of users and managing tens of
millions of documents,” said Obian Chief Technology Officer Peter Bohnert.
“After we implement the grid computing technologies incorporated in Oracle
Application Server 10g, Jupiter will be able to scale up to support tens of thousands of
users and manage hundreds of millions of documents.”

Jupiter’s architecture was specifically designed to take full advantage of the
functionality included in Oracle Application Server’s advanced technology components.
For example, Obian has leveraged Oracle technology in the following key areas:
ˇ Jupiter runs seamlessly with Oracle Portal and can be called by other Oracle portlets
for enterprise application integration;
ˇ Jupiter’s Development Tool-kit and the integrated Jupiter API allow for fast and
effective application development with Oracle’s J-Developer platform.
The Jupiter Development Toolkit includes the ability to build online transactions that
access the document management module through the Web interface;
ˇ Unlike most document and content management systems, Obian built an extremely fast Free
Text Retrieval (FTR) capability into Jupiter. Obian did so by designing the single
repository for both documents and Web pages using the indexing, administration and
performance tuning capabilities
Oracle Database provides;
ˇ Jupiter uses Oracle Workflow to provide the business process management functionality
required by customer organizations. Once the root processes are established directly in
Oracle Workflow, individual
users work within Jupiter to launch and manage their business processes.
Obian has added workflow functionality extensions within Jupiter to ensure that it meets
the unique document management application’s needs. Jupiter’s repository for all
content – documents, Web pages, images, workflows, audio files, etc. – needs to
only use a single instance of the Oracle Database to provide data consistency and trusted
report generation throughout the enterprise.
