PRESS RELEASE
Obians Jupiter Contributing to the Reconstruction of Iraq Jupiter
Used To Inventory Status of 9,000 Iraqi Schools
Burlington,
MA June 27, 2003: The American Islamic Congress (AIC) will be using Jupiter
as a critical part of its effort to inventory the status of over 9,000 schools in Iraq
during the next 60 days. The AIC chose Jupiter for its: 1) powerful document and Web
content management capabilities; 2) ability to support both Arabic and English; 3)
flexibility to store and retrieve unstructured content and images; and 4) portability
it can support multiple simultaneous users running on a laptop computer.
The AIC has been awarded a subcontract to visit each of 9,000 schools throughout Iraq,
perform a survey of each facility describing its layout and size, evaluate its condition,
and make a photograph record of their findings.
We have a very important job to do and not much time to do it in, said Zainab
al-Suwaij, Executive Director of the AIC. We need a software program that will
allow us to store the different types of data we will be gathering on approximately 9,000
schools, including photos, surveys, and questionnaires. We will be getting
information from a team of 45 surveyors in the next two months. This information
will need to be categorized and used by other organizations to renovate the physical
facilities and stock the classrooms so that lessons can begin in time for the next school
year. Jupiter will allow us to store data in both Arabic and English as well as
provide us with the capability to transfer it to other contractors responsible for
successfully restarting the Iraqi educational system.
Jupiter is the only comprehensive Enterprise Information Management platform that supports
both English and Arabic for both instructions and the storage and retrieval of
information. Jupiter was specifically designed to operate in a multi-tiered, J2EE
operating environment as the basis for complex enterprise applications that require
storing tens of millions of documents and supporting thousands of online users.
"We are excited to have software that not only works simultaneously with Arabic and
English documents, but also has the flexibility to run on a battery-powered laptop in
Iraq," commented AIC technical specialist, Bushra Makiya. "We know we face
numerous challenges ahead and anticipate that Jupiter's capabilities will help us address
many of the IT issues that we will face."
John Logan, Obians President, stated, Obian is dedicated to helping in the
effort to rebuild Iraq. We are very proud that the AIC leadership recognized the
numerous advantages Jupiter will bring to its work there. Jupiters unique
ability to quickly develop Web services applications in both Arabic and English will make
it a mainstay of the emerging Iraqi government infrastructure.
Obian is the first and only enterprise software company that offers comprehensive
collaboration and issue management technologies that forge strong partnerships between
business and technology executives.
With its role-based structure, Obian solutions facilitate real-time communication and
